Summary:
The Dance Archivist is responsible for the documentation, organization, and management of all dance-related materials within the organization. The role requires a strong understanding of dance history, as well as exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an organized system for cataloging and archiving dance-related materials, including photographs, videos, music scores, costumes, programs, and other relevant documents.
- Digitize and preserve dance materials using appropriate archival methodologies and technologies.
- Create detailed metadata for each archived item, ensuring accuracy and consistency in labeling and tagging.
- Collaborate with other departments, including artists, choreographers, and researchers, to identify and gather relevant materials for archiving.
- Conduct research to enhance the collection and identify missing or rare items, ensuring the archive remains comprehensive.
- Provide support to internal and external researchers, dancers, and choreographers seeking access to the archive.
- Assist in the design and implementation of educational programs and exhibitions that utilize the archive's materials.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in archival practices, and implement best practices accordingly.
- Maintain the physical condition of dance materials, including proper storage and handling to prevent damage or deterioration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Dance, Archival Studies, Library Science, or a related field.
